We are very proud to announce that the 2010 CrossFit Games will be held at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA from July 16-18. This is a great step forward for the Sport of Fitness, as we will take full advantage of the 125 acre facility in one of the world’s largest metropolises.
The primary competition areas will be the 8,000 seat Tennis Stadium and 8,000 seat Track and Field Stadium (see attached photos). This is where the Summer X-Games were held for several years, so we have lots of freedom to alter the playing fields to fit our needs. Rogue Fitness is fabricating at least two major steel structures that we’ll use for standard, and maybe not so standard, CrossFit drills. The Unknown and Unknowable will definitely be a part of the 2010 Games! Check out the video for more information!
There is certainly a little sadness leaving Aromas, but the Games have gotten so big that the County permitting process was no longer possible. We have been exploring a wide variety of options over the past few months, and are very excited to be finally announcing our selection of the HDC.
The Home Depot Center solves many logisitical challenges for the Games, as well as gives us some opportunities not possible in Aromas. For one, it lets us ramp up the production our live webcast of the Games (over 25 hours of coverage over three days live shown for free on CrossFitGames.com!).
Obviously, Los Angeles has plenty of hotel capacity for the CrossFit world to convene in comfort. We also will be offering 13 VIP Luxury Suites for rent, each with 15 seats and room for up to 20 people with private catering. Lot 17 will be a dedicated Tent City with a Beer Garden, food services, and live video feeds from the stadiums.
Spectator tickets will be General Admission (no assigned seats), and handled by Ticketmaster. Registration for Athletes, Judges, Volunteers and Sponsors will be handled by our registration system. VIP Luxury Suites are handled by a separate department at the HDC. More details on all these in about two weeks.
We are working with local hotels to arrange discounts, so wait for that if you want. Otherwise, book away. We tried to arrange for RV’s and/or camping or even overnight parking at the facility but that is not possible. Los Angeles regulations are very strict about this, so there can be NO overnight stays at the HDC.
LAX is the closest airport, but it’s also the craziest. John Wayne/Orange County (SNA), Burbank (BUR), Ontario (ONT), and Long Beach (LGB) are smaller alternates all within about a half-hour drive without traffic.
The HDC is about a five-hour drive South of Aromas, so if you already bought tickets to the Bay Area, you can weigh the cost of driving against changing your flights.
Traffic is pretty bad all over LA, and public transportation around the HDC isn’t great, so it’s probably a good idea to carpool as much as possible.
Best of luck to all the athletes and teams competing in the Regionals. We can’t wait to see the best of you in the stadiums this July!
♦Whether you are competing, or comming to show your support, we would definitely like to see you at the VegasFitWars this Saturday. Many of our athletes are competing in both the scaled and Rx’d divisions - some for the first time ever! Also this is a great opportunity to support a good cause; all proceeds go to the Wounded Warrior Project♦
